Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry at Arapahoe Dental in Boulder gives patients with anxiety, sensitive gag reflexes, or complex treatment plans a comfortable way to receive care. Three options are available: oral sedation, nitrous oxide, and IV sedation delivered by a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA). Dr. Luciano Retana focuses fully on your dentistry while the CRNA manages your comfort.

IV Sedation

IV sedation is the deepest level of in-office sedation, delivered intravenously by a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) at Arapahoe Dental. It is used for longer procedures, full-arch implant cases, and patients with significant anxiety, so Dr. Luciano Retana can focus on the dentistry while the CRNA manages your comfort.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, is a mild, inhaled sedation used during visits at Arapahoe Dental. Quick to take effect and fast to wear off, it suits patients with mild anxiety or a sensitive gag reflex.

Oral sedation dentistry

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is a pill-based option for patients with significant dental anxiety or longer treatment visits. Prescribed and managed by Dr. Luciano Retana, it keeps you conscious and responsive but deeply relaxed throughout your appointment.
